7 ‘Star Wars’ characters who could be making their animation debut sooner than you think

With Boba Fett’s book in a few weeks, and with The clone wars, Rebels, The bad lot, Resistance, and The Mandalorian on Disney +, it’s fair to say that Star wars has a large number of television shows to its credit. And in 2022, Obi wan kenobi, Ahsoka, and Andor will also happen.

But while many of these shows are scattered along the Star wars chronology, which helps to bring them together is the fact that a number of Star wars characters appear in more than one, especially if they cross the world of live-action animation or vice versa!

Many characters have moved from animation to live action, with Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) being some of the more recent examples. And now, Sabine Wren from Rebels will also make his live-action debut in Ahsoka.

But what about those who have yet to receive the lively treatment? While The clone wars and Rebels gave many main characters such a makeover, the only ones we’ve seen more recently are Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) and Bib Fortuna, both of whom have appeared in The bad lot.

However, with The bad lot Season 2 on the horizon, things are likely to change. Although this show takes place shortly after the Clone Wars (around 19 BC), here are nine Star wars characters that might appear in animated form sooner than you think!

7. Jyn Erso

Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is one of strongest woman Star wars characters the low. While she only appeared in 2016 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, she could appear in The bad lot, especially since it is defined before New hope prequel, in which Jyn dies while saving the galaxy.

Technically speaking, however, Jyn Erso has already appeared in animation, in micro-series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny – but we are talking about one of the most “hot” shows. So could she show up in The bad lot? Well, it all really depends on the age of the character.

Jyn is 21 in Thief one, so she was born in 22 BC. If she were to appear in The bad lot – located at 19 BBY – she would be three years old. However, if the series takes a time-leap, Jyn could fit into a story as a child, especially given her long-standing connection to the Empire.

6. Han Solo

If you are not familiar with Star Wars: Rebels, which is set only five years before New hope, you might be surprised to learn that Han Solo (Harrison Ford / Aldren Ehrenreich) does not appear on the show, although Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, and Lando Calrissian all made cameos.

Rebels is the closest to the original trilogy we’ve ever been with a canonical Star wars animated show, but seeing as it aired three years ago, there’s really only one place to go for Han Solo – The bad lot.

Han is 32 years old in New hope, and 19 – 22 in Solo: A Star Wars Story. That would put him at about 13 years old at the time of The bad lot. And there are plenty of ways to present him too, given his hectic childhood, from being raised by pirates to being a young smuggler.

5. Rey Skywalker

We know what you are thinking – Rey (Daisy Ridley) was not alive at the time of The bad lot. In fact, she wouldn’t have been born before 34 years old! And if Rebels was still going on – which is much further down the line – there wouldn’t be even a way to get her to appear on this show!

Rey does not appear in Star Wars: Resistance, that is, which is defined some time before and during the Star wars sequel trilogy. So where could the “last Jedi” currently in the canon be? Star wars animation shows, since The bad lot is completely out of the question?

Well it is possible that we will see another series of Star Wars: Visions episodes, so maybe Rey will undergo the anime treatment. Or maybe all these rumors of the next one Ahsoka series introducing time travel could mean that she will be free to show up in The bad lot!

4. Cara Dune

This is not a conversation about Star wars without controversy, but we decided to include Cara Dune (Gina Carano) because she is still a Star wars character, regardless of whatever is happening on our side of the screen. However, there are currently no plans to redesign Dune.

Cara Dune was a huge hit with fans during her time on The Mandalorian, with Carano bringing a harsh but tender approach to the role. While it’s still possible Disney and Lucasfilm will find a replacement, it’s probably more likely that we’ll see Dune appear on an animated show.

The character’s age has not been confirmed, but she is believed to be in her late thirties, just like Carano. As such, it would make her about 10 years (or so) if she were to appear in The bad lot. That said, we think Cara Dune deserves its own animated show!

3. Grogu

We finally came up with a character that could be easily placed in just about any Star wars lively show! However, since The bad lot is the only one that works right now, which is exactly where we hope to see Baby Yoda make his animation debut.

Like Yoda, we don’t know the name of Grogu’s species, but what we do know is that they age about ten times slower than humans. Yoda died around 800 (he appears to be around 80), while Grogu is 50 in The Mandalorian (although he looks a bit younger than five).

So if Grogu made an appearance on the post-Clone Wars animated show, he probably wouldn’t look much different than how he appears in The Mandalorian. After all, we learn from Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) that he was training in the Jedi Temple in Coruscant when Order 66 hit.

2. Din Djarin

We can’t talk about Grogu without involving Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in the mix, and we can’t wait to see Mando appear in the animation. It’s probably going to happen at some point, but as with a lot of the other characters on this list, The bad lot would see him appear as a child.

Fans estimate that Din Djarin is roughly the same age as Cara Dune – in her late thirties. And we know he was rescued from Mandalore in 19 BBY, in which he appears to be around 10 years old, so that makes sense. It is therefore old enough to appear in The bad lot already.

But let’s save our blurgs, because we also know that he was taken in by the Children of the Guard, before finally joining “The Tribe” on Nevarro. Not only that, but Din Djarin would hardly be a bounty hunter by the age of 10. While that didn’t stop Boba Fett from showing up in The clone wars!

1. Luke Skywalker

Of course, we’re going to include Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on our roster! After all, the character got a second chance after the sequel’s disastrous trilogy and her widely hated portrayal in The Last Jedi.

But despite being such an iconic character and a big part of pop culture, Luke Skywalker has never appeared on any animated show! And there were a lot of opportunities, with Rebels being the tallest (although he gets a mention of Darth Maul).

So could Luke appear in The bad lot? The short answer is no, because he is a newborn at the time of this show. But that doesn’t rule out the fact that Luke may one day appear in animated form. And then there’s the whole time travel, which would open so many doors (literally).

Can you think of another Star wars characters who have yet to appear in an animated show?
