DC Comics announces a 10-year cinematic plan and this could be the move that will take their film franchise to the top of the film industry.

This writer has publicly stated that DC Comics films have not filled their fans with hope. Cast members leaving the franchise and delays due to multiple reasons are causing people to lose faith in the DC Entertainment (DCEU) universe.

The recent news that Buildinggl won’t be released on HBO Max or in theaters did them a disservice. Considering DC has some of the best comic book characters of all time, that’s disappointing. There’s no way they’re not ahead of the game.

Nevertheless, with all this bad news comes something positive. The DCEU is reportedly working on a 10-year plan.

Warner Bros. announces 10-year plan for DC Comics films

During the second quarter 2022 earnings call, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, said:

“There will be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC. It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together, very effectively, with Kevin Feige at Disney. We believe we could build a sustainable and much stronger long-term growth business out of DC. And within that, we’re going to focus on quality. We’re not going to release a movie until it’s ready. We are not going to release a film to make a quarter of it. We’re not going to release a movie unless the focus is on ‘How can we make each of these movies in general as good as possible?’ But DC is something we think we can improve on and we’re focusing on that now.

For years, DC Comics fans have wondered why the movies felt rushed. It was as if they were taking on Marvel Studios in a race that only they knew existed. It was obvious that the films were rushed as too much was put into one project. This is why the 10-year plan is a glorious idea.

There’s no reason the Justice League movie didn’t take longer to build. Had that been the case, moviegoers would have had more time to learn more about the characters and let them develop before the big Justice League movie. DC lucked out when Jason Mamoa, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot were loved by fans. If they weren’t, it would have killed the franchise a long time ago.

Finally, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, said something that should make everyone happy. Say: “We are not going to release a film to make a quarter of it. We’re not going to release a movie unless the focus is on “How can we make each of these movies in general as good as possible.” This means that the focus will be on the quality of the film rather than the amount of money it will make.

This could be the change moviegoers have been looking for for nearly a decade. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. It could make DC Comics movies the great franchise they always should have been.
