Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe Trailer Brings the Boys Back to Paramount+

0

They come back from the past and in more ways than one. On Thursday, Paramount+ unveiled the trailer for Beavis and Butt-Head make the universe. The trailer and synopsis can be seen below.

In perhaps the dumbest space movie ever made, Beavis and Butt-head are sentenced to space camp by a “creative” judge in 1998, which leads to a trip on the space shuttle, with predictably disastrous results. After going through a black hole, they reappear in our time, where they seek love, abuse iPhones, and are hunted down by the Deep State. Spoiler: They don’t score.

Beavis and Butt-Head make the universe is the long-awaited sequel to the duo’s first theatrical adventure, 1996 Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. Series creator Mike Judge is back as director, writer and will reprise his role as the voice of the two boys. The film is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and Titmouse, Inc.

Time travel sucks!

If you are new to Beavis and Buttheadwelcome to the 90s. Beavis and Butt-Head made their debut in Judge’s 1992 short baseball frog, which aired on MTV’s Liquid Television. MTV would commission an original series beginning The Boys, which was a smash hit! The show centered around the boys as they go to school, get part-time jobs, and engage in silly teenage shenanigans. Each episode involved a portion of the boys watching popular music videos of the time and providing low-key commentary.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

As one of MTV’s highest-rated shows at the time, Beavis and Butthead would go on to wreak havoc on MTV from 1992 to 1997 with seven seasons. The popularity of the show naturally led to the years 1996 Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. The film followed the boys on a road trip to find their stolen television, and later “score”, while being chased by the FBI! The film was a commercial success, with a budget of $12 million and a box office earning of $63 million. In 2011, the duo returned with an official eighth season consisting of 22 episodes. The series also featured the first appearance of Daria, who would go on to star in her own hit show also on MTV.

It wasn’t until 2014 that Judge raised the possibility of reviving the duo, but MTV wasn’t interested. In 2020, Comedy Central announced that it had commissioned a second revival of the show, which would target the Gen Z demographic. The revival would also include several spinoffs and films. But until now, that was the last anyone had heard of the project.

Now the two had (somewhat) found their way back to MTV as part of the Paramount+ library, which also contains all 200+ episodes of the original series. While on the surface it may look like a cartoon without substance, Beavis and Butthead continues to present itself as a living time capsule of the slacker culture of the 1990s. Where young people couldn’t be bothered to care and preferred to sit back and let the world go by. Whereas Daryaupcoming spinoff, Jodiepromises a more grounded catch-up in the modern world from the perspective of an older millennial, Beavis and Butt-Head make the universe is more of a celebration of this nostalgic world.

Beavis and Butt-Head make the universe is coming to Paramount+ on June 23 this year!
