Black Women Animate Hosts 2nd Annual Black In Animation Awards & Winners – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: The animation house Black Women Animate has defined the details of its second Black in Animation Awards Show. Title Elevator as we climb, the 2021 ceremony will see the Grammy-winning musician and Steven Universe the star Estelle returns as a host.

The awards ceremony aims to honor black animation people who have paved and are currently leading the way in this sector of the entertainment industry.

This year’s Black in Animation Awards Show winners include Jay Francis, Vice President – Current Series, Diversity and Inclusion at Disney Television Animation with the Trailblazer Award; Mounia Aram, Founder and President of Mounia Aram Company with the Cultural Innovator Award, and Cstream raig screenwriter Tiffany Ford with the Next Gen Award. The other winners are Dan Haskett, veteran host who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; Recipient of the Thandiwe Mlauli International Award, Founder and CEO of Studio Yezi; and Laurence Ralph, independent filmmaker and professor of anthropology at Princeton University, who will receive the Social Impact Spotlight Award.

The recipient of the Rising Star Award, as determined by the Dolphin Tank Short Competition Series, will be announced at the ceremony.

“After last year’s success, we wanted to continue honoring and recognizing the black legends of animation,” said Taylor K. Shaw, Founder and CEO of BWA Studios, and JLove Calderón, Founding Partner and Managing Director. “That’s where the theme for this year comes from; as Black Folx continues to play an incredible role in the animation industry, it creates space for generations to come. We want to continue celebrating this at our Black in Animation awards show, while providing direct access for the public to tools in which they can also excel in our industry at our Boot Camp event.

The awards ceremony will follow the fourth annual BWA Studios Boot Camp event on November 14, 2021 at 5 p.m. PT. Entrants can watch the Black in Animation Awards Show virtually and must register at http://www.bwabootcamp.com.

The BWA Boot Camp and Awards Show is produced by BWA Studios in partnership with A Wynn Wynn Productions and West Peek Productions.
