Book launch ceremony; mime, cartoon show held at PNCA

Islamabad: The National Arts Council of Pakistan, in collaboration with Gogi Studios and the Ministry of Climate Change, on Friday held a book launch ceremony for “My Tree Book” as well as a mime and cartoon show in the ACFN premises.

The event aimed to enlighten young people and children on the negative impact of a less treed environment on the climate, leading to global warming, and the importance of trees and forests in controlling rising temperatures and Glacier Lake floods.

Renowned cartoonist and illustrator Nigar Nazar is the author of this book and, praising her efforts, PNCA organized the book launch ceremony with show at the PNCA auditorium in collaboration with Gogi Studio and the Ministry of Climate Change .

PNCA Director General Zahir Shah welcomed Guest of Honour, Malik Amin Aslam, Federal Minister and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Jaudat Ayaz, Additional Federal Secretary (MOCC) and Project Manager (Glof ) and Manuel Duran Ginenze-Rico, Ambassador of the Spanish Embassy in Pakistan.

He also thanked Nigar Nazar, the first Pakistani cartoonist to present such an informative book with an interactive style of description and illustration through cartoons which will definitely help and encourage audiences and audiences to overcome environmental issues.

Jaudat Ayaz, Project Manager (Glof-IN/Additional Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change, while recalling his childhood memories of seeing Gogi on TV and in newspapers, told the audience that Gogi was the character of popular cartoon in the 1970s and 1980s, while attending school and college, he avidly used to see Gogi cartoons on television and in newspapers.

Malik Amin highlighted the danger of pollution on the environment by citing an example of a pile of plastic waste equivalent to two K2 mountains which he related to ‘kooray ka jin’ written by Nigar Nazar in 2002 while he was Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment. He applauded Nigar Nazar’s consistent commitment to raising awareness of social and environmental issues through his comics and record books, especially ‘Garbage Monster / ‘Kooray ka Jinn’ and ‘My Tree Book’ focusing on the impact of pollution, Glof and global warming on the environment and climate and showcasing ways to deal with these issues. PNCA & Gogi Studios also presented ‘My Tree Book’ ‘through song’ Aik Achai bhi Achi hai’, a mime and cartoon show which was highly acclaimed by guests and students.
