The Ghostbusters franchise is adding an animated series to Netflix… after four films have already been made
A new Ghostbusters anime series was just announced earlier today during Netflix Geeked Week and confirmed by Variety.
Ghostbuster animation will be handled by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who will both serve as the series’ producers.
Both filmmakers are no strangers to the macabre franchise and have previously worked on the 2021 box office hit, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife and also collaborated with Kenan to co-write the screenplay.
Jason followed in the footsteps of his father, Ivan Reitman, known for directing the first Ghostbusters movie.
The cast included actors such as Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard, alongside the original actors from the 1984 film.
The only original Ghostbuster not to return in the 2021 film was Harold Ramis, who died in 2014.
In an interview with Vanity Fair on the set of the film, Murray said, “Well, we’re a down to earth man. This is the business… And this is the story we tell, this is the story they wrote.
The original cast is back: the crew of 1984’s Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Murray sit down for a reunion. The team’s fourth member, Harold Ramis, died in 2014
The film was a huge success and earned a total of $204.6 at the box office with a budget of $75 million.
Although plot details for the new animation have yet to be revealed, the series will be under production by Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc.
Ghost Corps, Inc. is a subsidiary created in 2015 under Sony Pictures Entertainment that was supposed to handle all things Ghostbusters.

The famous Ghostbusters franchise began with the 1984 film premiere, starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver.
The film is known to be one of the most successful comedies of its decade and earned a total of around $295 million in box office sales.
A number of spin-off series and films have been added to the franchise, including another anime that aired from 1986 to 1991 and the 2016 film, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call.
A fixed premiere date or any other information about the new series is still in the works.
