Goldie Hawn has shared a story from her early years in the industry, accusing famed cartoonist Al Capp of sexually harassing her during an audition when she was 19.

“I had a script and I was reading for that script,” Hawn, 76, recalled of the 1964 incident on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Friday. “I’m going to Park Avenue when I have to meet him. Next thing I know I’m in this rich guy’s apartment, and he’s famous and his name is Al Capp.

Capp – who died in 1979 – is the famous cartoonist and comedian best known for his satirical comic, ‘Li’l Abner’.

“In he walks with his – I didn’t know he had a peg leg, but he did – well, he walked like he had a peg leg. He had this insidious grin. was really ugly,” Hawn continued. “And he said, ‘I’m coming back in a minute, I’m just going to slip into something. And he came back in a dress. So now I’m panicking because I recognize that something happens.

“Now I’m like, ‘I better let him know I’m a good girl, I better let him know whatever he thinks is not gonna happen. “”

“So I talk about my mom and my dad, and the fact that they wanted me to marry a Jewish dentist, and I wanted him to know that I was religious,” she said. “I wanted him to know that I had scruples.”

Hawn went on to say that Capp asked her to walk slowly towards him with a “stupid” expression.

“’Look stupid. Looks like a fool,’” she says, he ordered before asking her to pull up the hem of her skirt to get a better look at her legs.

While she initially obliged, lifting her skirt to just above the knee, his request that she lift it “higher” led the beauty to refuse.

“He said, ‘Come here and give me a kiss.’ I was shocked, but I expected something like this,” she continued. “And so I went to the couch because I wanted him to know that I wasn’t going to run out of the room, that I was going to stay calm, and whatever. And he put on his…whatever that dress…and all of its apparatus, all of its sausage, was literally laying there.

At this point, Hawn made it clear that the audition would go no further.

“I looked at him and said, ‘Oh, Mr. Capp, I’ll never have a job like this. And he said, ‘Well, I got them all, and nothing will become of you.’ And I said, ‘It’s fine, I’m a dancer anyway, but I’ll never have a job like that.’ And he said, ‘Well, you just have to marry a Jewish dentist.’ And I said ‘Oh, I could.’ And I walked out,” Hawn said.

Leaving in tears, she realized that the L train in New York was not running and that she had to go to her dance concert at the 1964 World’s Fair.

“He threw me $20 for a cab. It was not a good day,” she added.

In 2017, Hawn recalled the story to people, calling the encounter “so scary”.
