The Kerala government released an animated short on Tuesday to educate parents and children about the importance of sex education.

The film “Friend, Adi Sanju, Manju” was produced by the Integrated Child Development Program and the Department of Women and Child Development.

In the Facebook post accompanied by the video, CM Vijayan states that “existing non-scientific notions about sex are key obstacles to creating healthy male-female relationships and building a gender-based society.”

He adds that “providing scientific sex education to the new generation is an essential factor in the progress of a modern society”.

The short film’s message is simple and more parent-focused: educate your kids about sex and gender at home before they learn it from the wrong sources.

The film also calls on parents to answer their child’s questions about sex and gender rather than dodging them. Otherwise, children may use their own means to form false and mistaken opinions about sexuality, reproduction and even their own bodies.
