Laika Studios is ramping up its production of adult animated films, hopefully developing some serious threats to Disney’s dominance at the Best Feature Oscars in recent years. Two feature films look promising, both stop motion animated films with Travis Knight as studio president.
First, Knight teams up with Caleb Deschanel to take charge wild forest, set in Portland, Oregon, inspired by Colin Meloy’s fantasy novels of the same name. Netflix, Prime Video and AppleTV+ are potential contenders. The other, The night gardener a gritty neo-noir folk tale about a young Missouri man who struggles to keep his family together.
