Paul Gosar’s anime video is shameful

Opinion: Rep. Paul Gosar posted a disgusting photoshopped anime video in which he kills AOC and steals Biden with swords. There are calls to suspend Gosar from Twitter. It shouldn’t happen.

Representative Paul Gosar has just lost him.

Again, that is.

Arizona pride and joy Sunday night posted a bizarre animated video of himself on Twitter, where he kills Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., and sues President Joe Biden.

With swords.

Two of them.

Understandably, there is a movement underway by sane people, understandably dismayed, to have Gosar suspended from Twitter.

Don’t do it, Twitter.

We need to know what Gosar is thinking

Gosar, through his posts, regularly offers us a two-dimensional look at the disturbing mind of a congressman who has no trouble showing us who he really is.

We really need to watch.

It goes without saying that Gosar is an embarrassment for Arizona. He’s a guy who is on the far right of the far right. He connects with white nationalists and sees the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6 as victims.

Even his own parents are appalled.

But he’s a United States Congressman – reelected in a landslide in his heavily Republican district last year – and really, given that, isn’t it better to know what he’s thinking?

In his latest descent into illusion, Gosar posted a photoshopped version of himself in a Japanese anime video titled “Attack on Titan” – referring to giant creatures devouring human civilization.

Or as Gosar renamed it (in Japanese, no less): “Attack of Immigrants”.

Voters need a reminder of who they elected

The 90-second video features scenes of immigrants interspersed with the words “drugs”, “crime”, “poverty”, “gangs”, “violence”, “trafficking”, as well as photos of border patrol agents , some of them on horseback as the Haitians crossed the Rio Grande.

Then comes the hero, with the face of Gosar photoshopped on the main character of the cartoon. Swords in hand, he makes his way across the country alongside cartoon versions of Reps Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., And Lauren Bobert, R-Col.

Along the way, he kills a Titan who was photoshopped with Ocasio-Cortez’s face, leaping into the air to slice off the back of his neck. He is last seen in midair and swinging his swords at Joe Biden’s head.

The video, Monday afternoon, had been viewed 2.5 million times.

Understandably, this has drawn condemnation (as it should) and calls for the suspension of his Twitter account (as it shouldn’t be. Gosar voters need to be constantly reminded who they elected.).

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., Reported the video for Parliamentary Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

“Happy Monday in America where @GOPLeader colleague McCarthy just posted a video of himself wielding two swords against President Biden,” Swalwell said in a tweet. “These bloodthirsty losers are more comfortable with violence than with voting. Continue to expose them.

This is precisely why Twitter should ignore calls to silence Gosar.

It is shameful. Yet the GOP remains silent

It is appalling that a member of Congress posts such a disturbing video, fantasizing about the murder of a member of Congress.

This is doubly so for an Arizona congressman to do such a shameful thing. Not too long ago, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Az., Was shot in the head by a deranged killer.

Just don’t expect to hear condemnation from Arizona Republican officials.

We didn’t hear any noise when Gosar spoke at a white nationalist conference in February – when he posed for photos with the event’s organizer, a guy who lamented the loss of the ” white demographic core “of the country and proclaimed the events that led to the January 6 riot at the nation’s Capitol is considered” brilliant. “

We didn’t hear a sound when he wooed the QAnon kooks in March.

We heard no noise when Gosar in May called the January 6 riots “peaceful patriots” and proclaimed that Capitol Police “executed” a rioter as she tried to break into a party. of the Capitol where members of Congress were hiding.

Or when he did it again in July.

Now, Gosar is posing as a superhero who kills a congressman and looks set to assassinate a sitting president.

I would say “shame on him”, except that in reality he doesn’t.

Gosar understood one thing. It is indeed a cartoon character.
