Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the ongoing evacuation of students from war-torn Ukraine was evidence of India’s growing influence on the international stage.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Center launched Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian students stranded there. Modi said thousands of Indian students had been evacuated from Ukraine.

“At a time when other countries are struggling to rescue their citizens, we have succeeded in bringing our people out. It proves India’s growing influence in the world,” said Modi, who was speaking at Symbiosis University Pune’s Golden Jubilee celebration program.

Earlier, the Prime Minister launched the metro service in Pune by inaugurating the first 12 km stretch (of the proposed 32.3 km network) of the service in the city. He also unveiled a 9.5ft statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at the office premises of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

He also laid the foundation stone for the rejuvenation and pollution reduction projects of the Mula-Mutha River and inaugurated the RK Laxman Art Gallery-Museum built in Balewadi, Pune. —
