Rachel Zegler Provides Snow White Live-Action Update

Rachel Zegler, star of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, is currently filming Disney’s live-action movie Snow White in London. However, she still finds time to attend various awards shows, including the Grammys, where she offered a character update on the red carpet.

Zegler says this version of the film will focus on Snow White as the hero; “It’s an iconic cartoon, it’s 85 years old and Marc Webb, our director, is so dedicated to making a hero princess for his daughter. I really love that feeling, and I hope it carries over to the ‘eternity. When we do live-action versions of these Disney cartoons, where women are considered a little less than the male characters, I think it’s possible to be a princess and a hero and I like to be both.

In case you need a reminder, we had an action movie Snow White in 2012, which saw an armored version of the character (played by Kristen Stewart) fight on horseback, with a sword. Although the film was not critically acclaimed, this latest release won’t be the first time we’ve seen a “Snow White hero.”

Disney’s Snow White, as it will be known, has faced a few challenges, not the least of which was the fire that erupted recently, though luckily no one was hurt. Game of Thrones and Cyrano star Peter Dinklage has also criticized the making of a big-budget Hollywood movie in 2022 that features an outdated depiction of dwarfs.

Joining Zegler in the cast are Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan. It is slated for release in 2023. Other upcoming live-action Disney movies include The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio.
