Original art for a Calvin and Hobbes Comic,
dated February 6, 1992, sold at auction for $216,000.00.

Admittedly, this strip was hand-colored by Bill Watterson
and personally enrolled fellow cartoonist Garry Trudeau.

Other original artwork we mentioned last month also sold out.

The 15th Flash Gordon sunday by Alexander RaymondApril 15, 1934 went for $33,600.00
while a very early ca. 1911 Krazy Kat daily by George Herriman was sold at auction for $8,250.00.

Among the other renowned original comics sold at auction, we have selected:

A Dark Knight throwback page from 1986 by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson was worth $228,000.00 to someone, a 1968 Captain America homepage by Jack Kirby and Syd Shores sold for $168,000.00. The home page of an early Spider-Man (1964) drawn by Steve Ditko approached half a million – for $432,000.00.

A few George Herriman Krazy Kat Sunday Pages were available; the one from 1933 (top left) got $30,000.00, the 1921 page (top right) went for $19,200.00. Among many Charles Schulz comics was a daily from 1994 of Peanuts last decade (bottom left) selling for $18,000.00 while a daily from 1958 decade premiere featuring four of the band’s stars (bottom right) earned $40,800.00.

A few more of the dozens and dozens that went under the hammer:

Original art from a famous Berni Wrightson the comic book cover (top left) got $31,200.00. A Basilisk Wolverton a comic book essay featuring the destruction of the Earth (top right) cost $18,600.00. A spooky splash by Richard Corben (bottom left) costs $28,800.00. An undated Joe Shuster drawing of a full face Superman sold for $16,800.00.

Below is a first sample of Robert Crumb. Part of Crumb’s Harlem Sketchbook, he appeared in Help! The 1964 artwork sold at auction for $22,800.00.
