Mads Mikkelsen is set to return to Netflix Polar universe with the next spy thriller The Black Kaiser. Although we still don’t know for sure how the two films are related, they are both adaptations of the Polar spanish cartoonist webcomic series Victor Santos.
The Black Kaiser will adapt a graphic novel of the same name that unites Santos’ first arc Polar webcomic series. The film’s title refers to the world’s greatest assassin (Mikkelsen), who uncovers a murderous plot protecting a syndicate of killers and becomes the number one target of several killers. The story takes place before the events of Polar: came from the coldthe second graphic novel in the series, which served as inspiration for Netflix Polar.
In addition to bringing Mikkelsen back as the titular deadly assassin, The Black Kaiser also sees the return of Polarthe director Jonas Akerlund and writer Jayson Rothwell. This time around, Rothwell is sharing screenwriting duties with Mikkelsen himself. Producers Jeremy Boulon and Robert Külzer also jump from Polar for The Black Kaiser. So, with the main cast and crew reunited for another adaptation of the Polar universe, we’re bound to get the same gory, exhilarating experience that the Netflix movie delivers.
After bringing Netflix Polar to life, production companies Constantin Film, JB Pictures and Dark Horse Entertainment are joining forces to The Black Kaiser. The film is produced by Martin Moszkowicz, Michael Richardson, Keith Goldbergand Mikkelsen.
The Black Kaiser is heading to the Cannes market, where it will most certainly find a suitable distributor, be it Netflix yet again or some other party. Polar was streamed to over 130 million Netflix subscribers and became the most popular movie on iMDB’s Movie Meter for over two weeks, so it shouldn’t be difficult for The Black Kaiser to attract the attention of multiple buyers.

Mads Mikkelsen is best known for his villainous roles in Casino Royale and the series Hannibal. However, films such as another round and Arctic underline the dramatic scope of Mikkelsen and attest to the remarkable work of the Danish star. Mikkelsen recently appeared in Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets and will be seen next in Indiana Jones 5. Mikkelsen has also appeared in two of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, with roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. strange doctor and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
