There’s nothing wrong with rewatching your favorite show once in a while.

I reviewed the tastes of Office (the UK OG, thanks) and bojack Rider several times, for example.

But we’re living in a new golden age of entertainment, we’re told – despite shows like sexy beasts – and there’s plenty of new content worth at least a look.

Get 10 minutes in the first episode, stop, someone will tell you “you have to watch at least five episodes to enjoy it”, come back, and hey, now you’re a fan.

Paste regularly does ranking articles, like the one from last week Adapted by Stephen Kingand this time they are locking down the “best TV shows of the moment”.

This list contains 10 shows, which aren’t all new but are instead available on streaming services right now, and eschews the ones you’ve obviously heard of. We’ll choose four, starting with We own this town:

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by former Baltimore Sun crime reporter Justin Fenton, We Own This City showcases not only the corruption within a unit of the Baltimore Police Department, but also the tireless work of officers. of the FBI who broke real life. scandal in 2017, and the Justice Department lawyer trying to fix one of the nation’s most corrupt law enforcement agencies.

Here’s why you should care – it’s created by David Simon, the same guy who created and wrote Thread.

I don’t think I need to say much more, so let’s watch a trailer:

It airs on HBO Max.

Conversations with Friends:

[Frances is] a poet who performs the spoken word alongside her loud best friend and ex-girlfriend Bobbi (Sasha Lane), but despite her sharp written work, she struggles to express herself in real conversation. After the pair met a buzzing, 30-something writer Melissa (handled perfectly as Jemima Kirke), they quickly befriended her and her husband, C-list actor Nick (Joe Alwyn ). When Frances and Nick fall headlong into a world seesaw affair, they find themselves swallowed up by the impulse of youth (Frances) and the breakdown of domestic harmony (Nick).

The Hulu show has the added benefit of Irish accents, which is understandable since it’s based on Irish author Sally Rooney’s debut novel.

Also on Hulu you’ll find Under the banner of heaven:

It is based on a crime novel of the same name and deals with the infamous Lafferty murders of 1984:

…in which a young mother and her baby were brutally murdered by her fundamentalist Mormon brothers-in-law.

…while the show is unwavering in its honesty about the dangers of religious bigotry and the horrors of violence committed in the name of (any) God, it’s also a thoughtful look at what it means to believe in something special. enough to believe that he can not only withstand scrutiny, but that such questioning ultimately strengthens his faith.

Andrew Garfield puts in a stellar performance as the lead.

Before I get to the number one ranked show on Paste’s list, I should mention hacks. Yes, you might need two episodes to get into it, but that’s TV.

This brings us to the best dog, barry. Now in its third season, it cleaned up at the 2019 Emmys and could do it again next year:

It’s exceptionally rewarding to see a show that unfolds for half an hour in a way that blends action, emotional resonance, horror and humor in such satisfying ways. Which is, of course, what Barry has always done…

In addition to second rounds, Barry Season 3 is all about second chances. Various seeds of revenge are planted, but also the powerful idea that forgiveness must be earned.

Bill Hader plays a hitman who moves to Los Angeles and finds himself caught up in the city’s theatrical arts scene.

There’s also the added bonus of seeing Henry Winkler, aka the Fonz, crush him as interim coach Gene Cousineau.

At the very least, the above gives you a break from relentlessly watching true crime series on Netflix. If I’m ever a suspect in a murder case, my viewing history might just work against me.
