Former “Financial Fitness” host J. Daniel Pluff is back at WCNY with a new TV show.
“On the Money,” hosted by Pluff, is described as a financial news program focusing on people, companies, investors and interesting happenings in central New York. The series covers topics such as tax filing tips and real estate across multiple segments including “Common Cents”, “By the Numbers”, “Tech Bytes” and “Spotlight”.
“I’m trying to find some sort of financial connection,” Pluff explained in a phone interview. “Money is made, money is spent and lost.”
Pluff also focused on money-related topics with “Financial Fitness,” which aired on WCNY from 1992 to 2012, but he says the new show is faster.
“It’s really different,” he said. “It looks like a show that is not done locally. The production is really smooth and it’s been more work than I thought it would be, but we have so many interesting people coming onto the show.
The stories so far have focused on new tech startups in Syracuse; new initiatives like the Black Equity and Excellence Fund to help minority-owned businesses; high-end drone testing at Rome’s Griffiss International Airport; and a student-run investment fund at LeMoyne College’s Madden School of Business. This week’s episode includes a “Spotlight” interview with Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and a report on the Salt City Market’s first anniversary with Meg O’Connell of the Allyn Foundation.
“It kind of works on the whole gamete,” Pluff said.
Pluff, who lives in Skaneateles, is a financial adviser with a degree from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, worked as a stockbroker at Morgan Stanley, and served on the board of trustees of Upstate Medical University and the Central New York Community Foundation. In addition to “Financial Fitness,” he previously wrote financial articles for The Post-Standard and hosted “Central” on Fox 68 (WSYT-TV)
“On the Money” airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on WCNY.
