The National Mission for Clean Ganga has partnered with Diamond Toons to develop and distribute comics, electronic comics, and animated videos featuring the cartoon character.

Famous Indian comic book character Chacha Chaudhary was declared a mascot of the Union government’s “Namami Gange Program” at a meeting of the executive committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) on Friday. NMCG has partnered with Diamond Toons to develop and distribute comics, electronic comics, and animated videos featuring the cartoon character.

The government said the total estimated budget for the project is ??2.26 crores. The comics will initially launch in Hindi, English and Bengali.

The decision to make Chacha Chaudhary the mascot is part of NMCG’s efforts to bring about behavioral changes in children around the Ganges and other rivers, according to Jal Shakti’s ministry.

The ministry said young people are the “engines of change”, prompting the NMCG to focus on them in its outreach and public communication efforts. Namami Gange was launched as the flagship program of the Union Government for the effective reduction of pollution and the conservation and rejuvenation of the National Ganga River.

“NMCG has always been in community engagement with a special focus on youth and children. This association will be one more step towards it, ”said Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director of NMCG, in a statement.

During the meeting, a proposal for the conservation and sustainable management of wetlands in the Ganges floodplain in Bihar was also presented. Wetland inventory and assessment, wetland management planning, wetland monitoring, capacity development and awareness raising will be the main elements of the project with an estimated cost of approximately ??2.50 crores.

“The proposal aims to build a knowledge base and capacity for effective management of floodplain wetlands in the 12 districts of Ganga in Bihar to ensure the sustainable provision of wetland ecosystem services and secure wetland habitats. biodiversity, ”the ministry said.
